PLEASE SUPPORT THE 8AF.ORG PROJECT! [MORE]
The 8th Air Force (8af.org) is dedicated to preserving and honoring the legacy of the men and women who served in the 8th Army Air Force from 1941-1945. As a division of the Army Air Corps Library and Museum, a Texas-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, we collect, digitize, and share historical records, personal stories, and artifacts that document this critical chapter of World War II military aviation history.
The 8th Air Force, nicknamed "The Mighty Eighth," played a pivotal role in World War II. Operating primarily from bases in England, its fighter groups cleared the skies of the German Luftwaffe while heavy bombers, including the iconic B-17 Flying Fortress and B-24 Liberator aircraft, struck strategic targets from the French coast to deep within the German homeland. The 8th Air Force suffered over 26,000 casualties during the war, more than the entire Marine Corps, highlighting the extraordinary sacrifice of these brave men and women. Our organization ensures these contributions to American and world history are never forgotten.
The 8af.org brings together historians, veterans, family members, and enthusiasts dedicated to preserving the 8th Air Force's remarkable legacy. Our team includes:
