I. a.  1st Lt. Donald E. Penny, O-737229, 504th Ftr. Sq.

I was leading Red Flight in the vicinity of Naumburg at about 26,000 feet.  We encountered e/a attacking bombers to the east and we proceeded in that direction.  Two ME 109’s were going 180o to my flight at 15,000 feet beneath a layer of Cirrus clouds.  I and my flight dove to attach, one of the ME 109’s broke up and the other broke down, I followed the one that broke up.  The pilot bailed out immediately with out my having to fire at him.

I claim 1 ME 109 destroyed.

DONALD E. PENNY,

1st, Lt., A.C.

504th Ftr. Sq.

While flying Lt. Penny’s wing bandits were attacking Bombers to the east of us, diving down from 25,000 feet we attacked two ME 109’s.  One ME 109 began climbing so we followed and during the climb of the e/a the pilot bailed out practically falling through our own aircraft, afterwards I saw the jerry pilot floating down in his chute.

FRANK D. GUERNSEY,

Capt. A.C.

We need your help! We are looking for volunteers that can help us with the following tasks.

Historical Artifacts

We are looking for photos, documents and other types of artifacts including uniforms and gear of the 8th Air Force in World War II as well as other units and commands. We accept electronic/scans or originals of pictures and paper records. A General Order could be an award document that contains information on many servicemen. Special Orders may contain transfers or other information. Flight records, accident reports, maintenance logs, after action reports, pilot encounter reports, diaries and biorgraphies; all of these types of documents help us support or mission: preserving your history!
