ACCOUNT OF COMBAT: I was leading Chambers Green Flight of 3 A/C at approx. 23 ,000 ft. when No. 3 called in their bogies at 9:00 o'clock slightly below us, headed toward the bombers. We pulled over behind them and identified them as Me . 109s, flying a very tight formation. We closed to approx. 250 yards where we were apparently seen for they added throttle and broke before we could fire. Two went up to the right and the third went down to the left and we followed him. I closed to approx. 150 yards and fired several bursts, correcting my aim as I saw numerous strikes on the left wing, tail and fusela ge . The pilot bailed out at approx. 5,000 ft. I saw the parachute open and climbed again, looking for the other two, but could not find them. I CLAIM A one Me. 109 destroyed J.

Historical Artifacts
We are looking for photos, documents and other types of artifacts including uniforms and gear of the 8th Air Force in World War II as well as other units and commands. We accept electronic/scans or originals of pictures and paper records. A General Order could be an award document that contains information on many servicemen. Special Orders may contain transfers or other information. Flight records, accident reports, maintenance logs, after action reports, pilot encounter reports, diaries and biorgraphies; all of these types of documents help us support or mission: preserving your history!
