HEADQUARTERS SIXTY THIRD FIGHTER SQUADRON AAF STATION 365 APO 637 U. S. ARMY Personal Combat Report VIII Fighter Command , F. O. No. 247 1 st Lt. George F. Hall.
a . Combat b . 22 February 1944 c . 6 3rd Fighter Squadron , 56 th Fighter Group d . 1 24 5 hours e . Vicinity of Raderborn f . Clear; broken cloud 3 , 000 feet g . Me 110 h . 2 Me 1 1 0 's d estroyed i . I was flying No. 3 in Northgrove White Flight (Capt. Vogt, Capt . Leary, Lts . Hall, Porowski ). We made r/v with the big friends approximately on time and about 10 minutes later saw 10/15 Me 110's starting to attack the second box of bombers. Capt. Vogt attacked one while my element gave him cover and I saw big pieces fly off the e/a. One of the tail surfaces came off and the e/a went out of control. I then saw another Me 110 and attacked while at approximately 10,000 feet. I started firing from approximately 500 yards and closed to about 100 yards. His whole left side was blazing as I pulled up to the right to watch him. He continued for a few seconds, then turned over on his back. Someone baled out and the e/a split- S'ed into the ground. I saw it crash. I joined Capt. Vogt in a climbing circle. At about 16,000 feet we then saw another Me 110 to our left and below. Capt. Vogt went down in an attack and I followed. We went down to about 8,000 feet and I saw Capt. Vogt fire and observed strikes. Capt. Vogt pulled up to the left and I pulled up to the right to observe e/a. He was smoking and heading for the clouds in a slight dive. I throttled back and pulled in behind him —opened fire at approximately 500 yards and fired several bursts, closing to approximately 50 yards. I observed many large pieces fly off and just before I broke off at 3,000 feet someone baled out nearly hitting my plane. The e/a went down in a steep dive burning. I rejoined with Capt. Vogt, who was in a turning circle with anMe 109. Just as I closed in the e/a split- S'ed and went down into the clouds. I claim 2 Me 110's d estroyed . GEORGE
