G. FW 190 H . 1 FW 190 and pilot d estroyed I . I was leading Gowdy White flight with Lt. T.L. Harris my No.2 man, after having lost my second element. We had set course for home and were climbing up above the Big Friends when I noticed a B-17 straggler with an FW 190 sitting on his tail at approximately 19,000 ft. We dove down on the E/A but couldn't close on him as the tail gunner of the bomber was firing at him. We broke to the side of E/A and at that time he saw us and broke into us. We turned into him and then he started for the deck in a tight spiral. We followed him down indicating from 450-500 MPH. We were forcing him to keep a tight spiral by cutting on the inside of him when he tried to widen it out. At 10,000 ft. he dropped his belly tank. At 5,000 ft. his plane appeared to be stalling as he tried to pull out. His canopy flew off but the plane went right on into the ground without the pilot ever getting out. We circled the flaming wreckage taking pictures of it, then came on home without incident. I claim a FW 190 and pilot d estroyed. J. Ammunition expended : 0 rounds .

Historical Artifacts
We are looking for photos, documents and other types of artifacts including uniforms and gear of the 8th Air Force in World War II as well as other units and commands. We accept electronic/scans or originals of pictures and paper records. A General Order could be an award document that contains information on many servicemen. Special Orders may contain transfers or other information. Flight records, accident reports, maintenance logs, after action reports, pilot encounter reports, diaries and biorgraphies; all of these types of documents help us support or mission: preserving your history!
