Large cloud area (misty on bottom) from 17,000 feet up to about 29,000 feet covering from Retiers to St Mons in width and east to west in length. Thin stratus layer at about 20,000 feet south of Loire River. Clear over target area. G . FW 190 . H . One FW 190 destroyed . I . I was leading 353rd G roup . I went in with my section under a large cloud base, came up along left side of B-17's. I pulled up from 18,000 feet to 22,000 feet when 4 bandits were seen to the left and alongside que ing up for attack on the box of 17's. I made a quick left orbit and came around on tail of 2 leading FW's leaving the other two behind me for my #'s 2, 3 and 4. They did as expected, #3 shooting down one FW 190 that came in to get my tail. Almost at this time I came up on my O.T.U. Boy, (he must have been as he didn't ever look behind), I gave a short burst. Strikes appeared on left wing root with pieces flying off. I immediately gave another burst with strikes on cockpit and tail. The belly tank and other junk flew off. I was closing rapidly at this time and fired on in to point blank range. I passed under the FW as he rolled over going down. The pilot was dangling half out of the cockpit as I passed.

We are looking for photos, documents and other types of artifacts including uniforms and gear of the 8th Air Force in World War II as well as other units and commands. Special Orders may contain transfers or other information. Flight records, accident reports, maintenance logs, after action reports, pilot encounter reports, diaries and biorgraphies; all of these types of documents help us support or mission: preserving your history!
