Account of Combat : I was flying #2 in Surtax Blue Flight on a dive-bombing mission in the Reims area. We were 10 minutes inside the French Coast when bandits were reported in the area. We dropped our bombs and belly tanks and started to gain altitude, when 10 plus FW 190s and ME 109s jumped a flight on our left. My leader broke into them and was pursuing two ME 109s when a FW 190 came in from 7 o'clock high on him. I slid behind the 190 and started shooting at him. I observed many strikes on the fuselage and flame came pouring out of the cockpit. The 190 swayed and started an uncontrolled dive. I followed and was still shooting at him at 5,000 ft. going straight down, indicating 450 MPH plus. I entered a cloud so pulled up, recovering very close to the ground . I immediately climbed up through the overcast and joined a flight. Several other pilots reported a couple of burning planes that had been shot down. I didn't see the e/a crash because I blacked out as I pulled out just above the ground. I claim one FW 190 destroyed. H.F. SCHOLZ 2 nd Lt ., Air Corps.

We accept electronic/scans or originals of pictures and paper records. A General Order could be an award document that contains information on many servicemen. Special Orders may contain transfers or other information. Flight records, accident reports, maintenance logs, after action reports, pilot encounter reports, diaries and biorgraphies; all of these types of documents help us support or mission: preserving your history!
