ENCOUNTER REPORT Combat . 8 March 1944. 352 nd Fighter Squadron . 1 31 5. A/D N of Dummer Lake, approx. 8,000 feet. Good. FW 190. One FW 190 destroyed. Narrative: I was flying Yellow #4 of Wakeford Squadron, escorting the bombers. The combat took place near an airdrome N of Dummer Lake. My element leader, Lt Willets, broke down on three FW 190s. We chased one around, and he (190) went up in a turn to the left. The FW 190 then broke right into Lt Willets, and I fired while going straight up. Several strikes were observed on wings and canopy and fuselage section. He snapped to the left and headed for the deck. I followed him down still shooting, observing many pieces falling off. I broke off to the left in a climbing turn and saw a parachute below me. Looking farther back I saw a plane going down trailing heavy black smoke. Heavy flak was around us, so we hit the deck and came home. I claim one FW 190 destroyed. J. Ammo Exp 598 rds. HARRY H. DUSTIIN, 1 st Lt, AC, 352 nd F Sq. SUPPORTING STATEMENT I was flying to the right & behind Col. Meyer when he engaged his first 190. I saw the e/a turn over & go down in flames. I then became engaged myself & with Capt. Whisner . L ater on, I joined Col. Meyer as his wingman & saw him engage another FW 190 which he hit from deflection. The e/a did a wing-over, burst into flames & blew up. KARL M.
