I. I WAS FLYING NO. 3 POSITION IN GOWDY RED FLIGHT LED BY MAJOR HAYES. I AND MY WINGMAN, LT. REESE, WERE JUST CLIMBING UP FROM THE DECK WHEN I SPOTTED A FW. 190 FLYING STRAIGHT AND LEVEL AT ABOUT 1,000 FT. I CLOSED IN TO ABOUT 100 YDS. FROM ASTERN AND FIRED A SHORT BURST. I OBSERVED NUMEROUS STRIKES ON AND AROUND THE COCKPIT. THE E/A STARTED A SPIRAL TO THE LEFT AND CRASHED IN AN ORCHARD. THE PILOT UNDOUBTEDLY WAS KILLED. THE E/A WAS ENTIRELY DEMOLISHED AND WHEN LAST SEEN HAD STARTED TO BURN. MY WINGMAN, LT. REESE, HAS CONFIRMED THIS. I CLAIM 1 FW. 190 DESTROYED. J. A MMUNITION EXPENDED: 7 5 ROUNDS.

Historical Artifacts
We are looking for photos, documents and other types of artifacts including uniforms and gear of the 8th Air Force in World War II as well as other units and commands. We accept electronic/scans or originals of pictures and paper records. A General Order could be an award document that contains information on many servicemen. Special Orders may contain transfers or other information. Flight records, accident reports, maintenance logs, after action reports, pilot encounter reports, diaries and biorgraphies; all of these types of documents help us support or mission: preserving your history!
