G. Holloway, O-671544, 505th Fighter Squadron. On July 25 I was on a Type 16 mission as Upper Green Leader. I was with my flight near Beauvais, north of Paris, when a lone ME-109 flew under us at 2,000 feet and about 2,000 feet below. With my flight I went down after him and wasn't sure at first if it was an e/a or not. By the time I got into range I could see that it was an ME-109 and gave him a short burst. He then "split-essed" and I went after him. I pick time range and going straight down and gave him another burst. At about 5,000 feet his canopy flew off and he dived straight into the ground. I did not see him get out. I would say that I was about 200 yards from him when his canopy came off and hit my aircraft. I could feel the impact and I knew that both the prop and tail had been hit. It took a little nick out of my prop, put a small hole in the left wing and also dented the leading edge of the wing. The left horizontal stabilizer had about a foot torn off. The plane flew O.K. on the way home.

We accept electronic/scans or originals of pictures and paper records. A General Order could be an award document that contains information on many servicemen. Special Orders may contain transfers or other information. Flight records, accident reports, maintenance logs, after action reports, pilot encounter reports, diaries and biorgraphies; all of these types of documents help us support or mission: preserving your history!
