I. I was flying #3 in Seldom Red Flight when we saw 2 P-47's going down in a left hand spiral, with an Me 109 behind them. Lt. Tanner, Red Flight Leader, bounced the 109 at about 12,000 feet. The E/A immediately tried to outdive us, and hit the deck. Lt. Tanner, who was about 200 yards or less astern, fired, scoring many hits, and causing the E/A's left ammunition box to smoke and pieces fall off. The E/A then zoomed up and I hit him in the cockpit and the left wing, which came off. The pilot, who was dead, fell out and hit the tail of his A/C . The chute opened, and the plane crashed into the forest. I c laim one Me 109 destroyed, shared with Lt. Tanner .

Historical Artifacts
We are looking for photos, documents and other types of artifacts including uniforms and gear of the 8th Air Force in World War II as well as other units and commands. We accept electronic/scans or originals of pictures and paper records. A General Order could be an award document that contains information on many servicemen. Special Orders may contain transfers or other information. Flight records, accident reports, maintenance logs, after action reports, pilot encounter reports, diaries and biorgraphies; all of these types of documents help us support or mission: preserving your history!
