ENCOUNTER REPORT 1ST LT . , MORRIS A . STANLEY O - 7 45531 A . C OMBAT B . 19 APRIL 194 4 F . O . 3 0 5, VIII FIGHTER COMMAND C . 36 4TH F IGH T E R SQ UA D RO N, 357 TH FIGHTER GROUP

D . 1 040 E . 10 MILES SOUTH OF BLIECHERODE F . HAZE, LOW CUMULUS CLOUDS SLIGHTLY BROKEN G . FW 190 H . 1 FW 190 AND PILOT DESTROYED I . CAPT. DAVIS AND HIS WINGMAN HAD STARTED AN ATTACK ON 2 FW 190'S. MY WINGMAN AND I WERE SLIGHTLY ASTERN AND ABOVE, GIVING COVER. AS CAPT. DAVIS MADE CONTACT, 2 FW 190'S MADE AN ATTACK FROM 90 DEGREES TO THE LEFT. I TURNED INTO THE TWO FW 190'S, AND THEY STARTED A STEEP TURN TO THE LEFT. I FIRED ACROSS THE NOSES OF BOTH, AND THE 190 ON THE RIGHT STARTED A FAST RO LL TO THE RIGHT; HE SEEMED TO STALL AND HALF SNAP TO THE RIGHT AND HIT THE TREES AND THEN INTO THE GROUND, AND EXPLODED. THE FW 190 MUST NOT BE ABLE TO TURN STEEPLY TO THE RIGHT. I CLAIM A FW 190 AND PILOT DESTROYED.

J. AMMUNITION EXPENDED: 6 0 ROUNDS . MORRIS A. STANLEY , 1ST LT, A IR C ORPS, PILOT . CONFIRMATION I WAS FLYING LT. STANLEY'S WING AND GAVE HIM COVER ON THE ATTACK. We are looking for photos, documents and other types of artifacts including uniforms and gear of the 8th Air Force in World War II as well as other units and commands. We accept electronic/scans or originals of pictures and paper records. A General Order could be an award document that contains information on many servicemen. Special Orders may contain transfers or other information. Flight records, accident reports, maintenance logs, after action reports, pilot encounter reports, diaries and biorgraphies; all of these types of documents help us support or mission: preserving your history!
