ENCOUNTER REPORT

a . Combat b . 24 May 1944 c . 50 3r d Fighter Sq uadron d . 1 205 e . NW of Berlin f . 6 /10 cloud g . FW 190 h . One FW 190 d estroyed i . While flying escort on a section of B 17s which had left the target area, Major Scruggs and I were attacked by an FW 190. I saw the E/A and called to Major Scruggs to break left; he did so and I turned inside him, getting on the tail of the E/A in 720 degrees of turning . Major Scruggs dropped his flaps and also got on his tail. We were both firing at the same time; pieces flew off the E/A, the pilot jettisoned his cockpit canopy, and the engine was streaming smoke. When last seen, the E/A was out of control in a vertical dive at about 9,000 feet. I make the following claim: One (1) FW 190 destroyed (air), shared with Major Harold W. Scruggs. j . P ILOT

We accept electronic/scans or originals of pictures and paper records. A General Order could be an award document that contains information on many servicemen. Special Orders may contain transfers or other information. Flight records, accident reports, maintenance logs, after action reports, pilot encounter reports, diaries and biorgraphies; all of these types of documents help us support or mission: preserving your history!
