e. 109 s I . Immediately after the first encounter with Me. 109 in which the Pilot bailed out, I split S-ed on the tail of two Me. 109s which were at the time spiralling downward. I started to close up within range to fire upon the #2 E/A when I observed two Me. 109s diving at me from about 10 O'Clock, a little high, attempting a head on pass. The 2 Me. 109s upon which I was closing apparently saw me for the first time and immediately pulled into a sharp turn to the left. The lead ship of this two ship formation coll ided with the outside Me. 109 attempting a head on pass. The wing of this ship struck squarely in the propellor of the ship making head on pass and was shorn off at the fuselage, the ship burst into flames and I observed no chutes. The E/A which collided head on lost its prop and the engine nacelle seemed to be crushed and was observed to start into what might be described as an irregular spin. I started after this ship but two Me. 109s were turning on my tail and I started into a Lufberry. I made six 360 o turns with the Me. 109s still following when a grey nosed P-51 attacked the rear ship, shooting down in flames. The other E/A broke off in a split S. I claim two Me. 109 s destroyed . J. AMMUNITION EXPENDED : 1 11 rounds . 50 cal MG.

Historical Artifacts
We are looking for photos, documents and other types of artifacts including uniforms and gear of the 8th Air Force in World War II as well as other units and commands. We accept electronic/scans or originals of pictures and paper records. A General Order could be an award document that contains information on many servicemen. Special Orders may contain transfers or other information. Flight records, accident reports, maintenance logs, after action reports, pilot encounter reports, diaries and biorgraphies; all of these types of documents help us support or mission: preserving your history!
