White Leader and his wing man dove left to attack several e/a and, just as I started down, I spotted two FW 190's at 3 o'clock on my level and chose the #1 man. I zoomed up to attack but he broke into me and I was forced to break off. The second e/a then came by my nose at 90 degrees, at 22,000 ft., from left to right, so I did a sharp right and got on his tail. He took evasive action and I followed, opening fire at 350 yards and closing to about 200 yards. I observed strikes on the fuselage and smoke began pouring from both sides of his engine, mainly fromthe left side. He then rolled over to the right and went straight down streaming smoke and I broke off the attack and pulled up. While climbing to get altitude and rejoin my flight another FW 190 passed about 500 ft. above me (I was at 20,000 ft.) from 5 to 11 o'clock. I got under him and continued my climb on him, clearing my tail at the same time. He then broke to the right, preparing to attack the bottom group of the Forts, and I opened fire at 300 yards, from dead astern and just below his level, closing to point blank range. I saw strikes all around his cockpit and pieces flew off barely missing my ship. Then, the pilot either jettisoned his canopy or it was shot off, and he baled out, his ship spinning down. After watching his chute open, I flew underneath the bombers, climbed up and joined two P-47's and came home with them." "I claim two F W 190 's destroyed ."
