I was flying Green 3 when we saw 12-15 e/a at about 17,000 feet. I followed Green leader down and saw him get into position to fire on a Me 109. Green 2 was also getting in position to fire. Then I saw a Me 109 on the right of Green leader trying to get on his tail. I lined up at once and began firing. He went into a dive and I followed him down at about 450 m.p.h. firing. Just above cloud base I saw hits behind the cockpit, the e/a rolled over to the right out of control and went straight down into the cloud at 3,000 feet. I then started to climb to the starboard when I saw another Me 109 below and to my port flying straight and level. I went down and closed on him, opening fire at 300-400 yards. As he dived into the cloud, I saw hits on the cockpit and fuselage, a lot of fire came out and he rolled over to the right and went straight in. I then broke away climbing, and joined up with a group of P-47s from the 335 Squadron. I claim 2 Me 1 0 9 s Destroyed .

We need your help! We are looking for volunteers that can help us with the following tasks.

Historical Artifacts

We are looking for photos, documents and other types of artifacts including uniforms and gear of the 8th Air Force in World War II as well as other units and commands. We accept electronic/scans or originals of pictures and paper records. A General Order could be an award document that contains information on many servicemen. Special Orders may contain transfers or other information. Flight records, accident reports, maintenance logs, after action reports, pilot encounter reports, diaries and biorgraphies; all of these types of documents help us support or mission: preserving your history!
